Halle Berry Responds to Critics of Video of Her in Bed with Partner Van Hunt

The Oscar winner stands by the Mother's Day video she shared.

Halle Berry isn’t making any apologies for a video she posted on Mother’s Day of herself in bed with her boyfriend, Van Hunt.

In the clip, the couple were in bed with sheets over their bodies, with the Oscar winner saying she was going to use Let’s Spin Intimacy Gel from Respin, her brand of products for women going through menopause. The candid nature of the video generated strong reaction from people, which caught Berry by surprise.

“It did because women, other women, got in their feelings and, ‘Was it right for her to be in her bed talking about spinning with her man?’ Yes!” Berry told Jenna Bush Hager while guest hosting TODAY with Jenna & Friends on June 4.

“And they were saying, 'And should she be talking about that on Mother’s Day? Shouldn’t she be with her kids somewhere?' First of all, it’s not 'Kids' Day.' It’s called 'Mother’s Day.' 'Kids' Day' is every day of the year,” she said while Jenna clapped.

“It’s my day and if I want to be in bed and spin with my man, then that’s what I am going to do,” the mother of two continued before intimating “spinning” is a euphemism for sex.

“It’s the most natural thing that we do, as women, as men,” she said.

Berry said putting the video on social media was totally fine because it opens up another avenue of conversation.

“And for people to be offended by that, saying, ‘Instagram is a family channel’ — yeah, we should be allowed to talk about this in our families. We have sex. It’s the most natural thing we do,” she said.

“Men do it. Women do it. And, scientifically, it’s really important that men and women still keep having orgasms and having sex into their later years because that’s how we stay healthy. That’s really a key component to longevity.”

Berry, who has been married three times, also said she didn’t do anything too racy in the video.

“You saw nothing. So we’re in bed. So what? We sleep in beds, people,” she said.

“You’re in love,” Jenna said.

“It should be OK to celebrate that and not be criticized for talking abut love in a time like this, in a world like this today. I’m sorry,” Berry continued. “We should talk more about loving each other, and not fighting. Whoever didn’t like it — so what?”
